The Bible declares that you will be given if asked (Matthew 7:7). But the question what is to be asked? Since believers usually wait longer for their answered prayers, the credibility of this promise often seems questionable. Are we doing it right? Or, those promises in the Bible are not really true? I guess, the problem lies within us – Or, perhaps is it our wrong understandings about the word of God?
Scanning the various books of the bible, it is evident that almost all the promises have certain conditions to complete before receiving it. In most cases, these conditions are basically the obedience and living in the word of God. It is written in Matthew 6:33; “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. In fact, the bible calls for great faith and trust in the Lord since it is the key to our salvation and all provisions.
Truth to be told – you cannot expect a true gift from God unless you’re truly on his side. How someone could say that a gift is from God, when you’re not sure it is from God. And how do you know something that you have just received is from God? The Bible says that the true gifts of God are eternal, as they good and perfect. The word of God says in James 1:17, NIV-Bible; “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”. From the light of above verse, we have to believe that there are bad and imperfect gifts which are not from God, but from the adversary devil, to possibly deceive and keep you away from the real knowledge, by offering short-lived gifts time to time in life.
Surprisingly, there is one promise in the bible that comes without any condition, which is fairly a revelation from the Lord for all the true believers. The Bible says in (James 1:5); “If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you”. Even King Solomon in the Old Testament recognized this special promise of the Lord (2 Chronicles 1:7, 10-12) – where he asked wisdom from the Lord, and God gave him everything in surplus, even those things he didn’t ask. So, let us be inspired by King Solomon and ask God the wisdom alone – the wisdom to seek Him and His righteousness. And surely, God will open all the doors for you – to fulfill this written promise; “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all things will be added unto you. Amen
