What is good and bad in Christian faith?

The word of God says in 3 John 1:11, NKJV; “Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.”

Defining good and evil according to bible worth a discussion based on its contents. And it often leads to the concept of both obedience and love in the word of God, which are the most fundamental measures of faith and salvation. The New Testament also teaches us on justice and righteousness, which should be the perfect outcome of a genuine Christian faith. It is written in Micah 6:8, NIV-Bible; “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” – Precisely, anything beyond the set limits of the bible is considered evil, even though it’s approved by the secular world! As a matter of fact, the way of the Lord is not the way of the world.

Apparently, living righteous is a myth for many Christians, as they often claim “no one is perfect and it is the Lord who makes one perfect and righteous”. A reasonable and logical argument – only to escape the responsibility of being obedient and faithful, while stressing more about the forgiveness patterns of the Lord as an excuse. But the word of God has something different to say, as it reads in Titus 2:11-14, NIV-Bible; “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” In other words, doing good is staying away from ungodliness and other evil passions, which includes self-control and contentment with regards to what is given.

According to the bible, loving others has tremendous power in the Christian faith since God is considered as love. And it’s commented as ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’. This is the love; that we walk in obedience to His commands, just as you have heard from the beginning – so that you should walk in love (2 John 1:6). Most of the time, people misunderstood the meaning of ‘love’ since they compare God’s love with the world’s love which is seen among the men. The difference is; in godly love there is no selfishness, but in worldly love there is much selfishness. Having kindness and mercy towards all fellow creation is divine – yet, the bible doesn’t allow the close association with anyone who does evil, until or unless they are cleansed by the Lord. Therefore, being a Christian, disobeying the word of God is not a good thing. Amen
