New Faith doesn’t change the law of the Old Testament!

When comparing the present day faith in Jesus Christ and certain Old Testament scriptures, surely there is some confusion. In these days, especially when the prosperity gospel is propagated elsewhere, it is a matter of convenience and benefits, perhaps for many, to hold certain bible-verses from the Old Testament, though it doesn’t co-relate with the basic concepts in the new covenant of faith. As a matter of fact, God is a God of perfection, not confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). And the blue print of His redemption plan remains same from the beginning till the end, except the understanding of certain people especially in this present age.

The word of God says in (Matthew 5:17); “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”. It is also written in (Galatians 3:10-13); “For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole”.

In today’s world, along with the new faith in Jesus, many are ignoring the scriptures in the Old Testament, as if it is not necessary, or simply taking its literal meaning alone. But the fact is; every single word ever came out of the Lord never misguided anyone. We all know that our flesh is weak by its own nature unless we are attached to God. The bible says in (Romans 8:3-4); “For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit”.

In other words, Jesus has done a great job on our behalf, leaving us a privilege to receive his works, only by surrendering our lives to him. So that once seemingly difficult law of God has made easy and simple through the faith in Jesus Christ. Besides, the bible says in Galatians 5:18; “If you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law”. This verse simply means; if you are in the true spirit of the Lord, you are obeying the commands, not as a law, but as a requirement for your holy living in Jesus Christ. It is more like, by faith you are not ignoring the given law of God, instead you are fulfilling it, by living in the faith of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen
