“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama Sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”” (Matthew 27:46, NKJV-Bible)
Jesus gave up his spirit in a loud voice, says the bible in Matthew 27:50. How could it possible for the son of God to die on the cross helplessly? Could there be a reason from the bystanders 2000 years ago, to justify their mistake, on an innocent blood? I guess even now, after a very long time, people in this generation ask this same question, at least once in their lifetime – how the son of God can be crucified or killed by men? Is it the faith of Christianity – to believe in their dead God?
Not everyone can digest this divine truth that Jesus Christ is the son of God and He died on the cross! The Bible declares that Jesus is the incarnated son of God, who came to this world, to accomplish the purpose of his father in heaven. He then died for all our sins – to redeem us from the evil – to reconcile us with the father – to facilitate us to receive the glorious promise of blissful eternity. It is written in John 3: 16-17; “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him”.
Now the mystery is – those who believe are the ones who are chosen. And be thankful and joyful, if you truly believe that Jesus Christ has died for your sins on the cross, 2000 years ago. Good Friday is the day for the believers to commemorate that God allowed His son to die for them on the cross, to redeem them from the hands of the evil, once and for all, till the eternity. Amen
