The unquestionable desires of our heart

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4, NIV-Bible)

Above is the most misinterpreted verse in the bible as many find solace since they were compromised in the worldly terms ‘delight’ and ‘desire’. It is imperative for believers understand how to delight in the Lord, as they always inclined to comprehend their hearts, in a way that it should match the desires with the word and the world. As a matter of fact, no one can delight in the Lord except by obeying and believing in His son Jesus Christ – and thus fulfilling the prophecy of divine mandate; which is ‘I in them and you in me’ (John 17:23).

The true meaning of delighting in the Lord, I believe, is the righteous living in the word of God with great humility and love. It is not necessarily shouting the name of the Lord, or displaying some joyous moments of praising – since many believers misunderstood the word meaning of ‘delighting in the Lord’. In addition, the bible says that while you’re led by the spirit (Romans 8:14), you can only delight in the Lord with the fruits of His spirit. It is written in Galatians 5:22-25, NIV-Bible; “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Because of our flesh is crucified along with its earthly passions and desires, do not expect or dream about those unrealistic desires of this world – which is absolutely non-biblical, as many were taught by the imposters.

The Bible speaks about the true desire of the heart in the written words of Psalms 73:25-26, NIV-Bible; “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Therefore, let us desire the living Lord, as there is nothing else in the world to desire better and be happier! Amen
