Godly love vs. worldly love

“Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love” (1 John 4:7-8, NIV-Bible)

There is something that we need to learn about the love which is mentioned in the bible. It is said that unless we know the Lord, we are not able to love one another. It also says that “whoever does not love, does not know God”. Certainly, it is an audacious bible-statement – could be used as well to identify true souls, I suppose. Now, what is this love that bible recommends? The word of God says in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV-Bible; “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.”

Apparently, Satan has perverted this concept of true love to self-centeredness, to the point it mimics the essentials of spurious care and affection. Truth to be told, the love that generally demonstrated now-a-days is not necessarily godly as it often contains the touch of possessiveness. Some may fret – but, it is the reality that all people at a certain time in their life contract to this very occurrence. In a way, the true love is the gift from God to the chosen, as it complements true faith and righteousness. Perhaps, that’s the reason why the world cannot accept the true love of God – and the bible says, “Things of God are foolishness in the eyes of the world”.

It is imperative for believers to understand the real difference between godly love and worldly love – Or else, it might corrupt their faith, as Satan intervenes in every walk of life. Once again, worldly love often goes with an intention to possess, but the godly love expects nothing in return, as it gives out everything till the end. To be precise, love is not something we cheerfully convey to those people we know closely and dearly; instead, it is the expression of care and humility towards every living-being on this earth. And that kind of love is a gift from God to those who belongs to him, says the Bible. And remember, godly love doesn’t permit the believers to associate or adapt with evil, but to maintain the humility towards everyone without losing the morality. Mind you, God is love – and do not mix the worldly love with godly God. Amen
